Technological substitution processes - an evolutionary model

چکیده

In the first part of this article, a short description of the most popular models of two competing technologies (the Fisher-Pry model and its modifications proposed by Blackman, Floyd, Sharif and Kabir) and the multi technological substitution models of Peterka and Marchetti-Nakiüenoviü are presented. In the second section, we describe an evolutionary model of diffusion processes based on biological analogy, together with the method of its parameters’ identification using real data on technologies development. In the final sections the application of that model to describe the real diffusion process (namely, primary energy sources in the world energy consumption) is presented. The feasibility of using the model to predict future shares of given technologies and to build alternative scenarios of future evolution of structure of the market is suggested.

Disturbance , Selection , and the Possibilities of Lock - In

Arthur’s (1988) model for competing technologies is discussed from the perspective of evolution theory. Using Arthur’s own model for the simulation, we show that ‘lock-ins’ can be suppressed by adding reflexivity or uncertainty on the side of consumers. Competing technologies then tend to remain in competition. From an evolutionary perspective, lock-ins and prevailing equilibrium can be conside...

Toward Evolutionary Innovation Theory

Abstract: Innovations, commercialized by new or old established firms, located at the core of industrial renewal process. The innovation concept has suffered transformations, along with the evolution of the models that try to explain and understand the innovation process. The innovative process corresponds to all activities that generate technological changes and the dynamic interaction between...

THE AUTOMOBILE ROAD TO TECHNOLOGICAL CHANGE Diffusion of the Automobile as a Process of Technological Substitution

Advancement of the motor vehicle and its production methods is analyzed as a process of technological change. In a broader context, motor vehicles evolved as an integral component of road transportation through a series of interlaced substitutions of old by new technologies. Building on a large number of studies that described technological substitution processes, first it is shown how new ener...

Evolutionary Distance Model Based on Differential Equation and Markov Process

Evolutionary distance is a measure of evolutionary divergence time between two homologous sequences. It is fundamental for the study of molecular evolution. In this paper, we exploit one-parameter model and two-substitution model using the differential equation and the Markov process in stochastic process. Through them, we can acquire the evolutionary distance between two sequences as estimated...
